Brooklyn’s Story: Quick Action Saves Her Life
Brooklyn’s mom noticed something wasn’t quite right; Brooklyn had developed unusual vaginal discharge and wasn’t eating like her usual self. Concerned, her mom acted quickly and brought her to the ER, where Brooklyn was presumptively diagnosed with pyometra, a serious and life-threatening uterine infection that can affect female dogs and cats that are not spayed.
By the time she arrived at our hospital, Brooklyn clearly wasn’t feeling well; she was lethargic and depressed. But even in her discomfort, she seemed to know that everyone around her was there to help. Thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Tina, Brooklyn had emergency surgery to remove her infected uterus, which weighed an incredible 10 pounds!
Pyometra can come on suddenly and progress quickly. It’s one of the many reasons why spaying your pet is so important; not only does it prevent unwanted litters, but it also eliminates the risk of dangerous infections like this one.
Brooklyn’s mom has been an absolute rock star through it all; catching the early signs, advocating for her care, and supporting her recovery every step of the way. She shared with us, “Brooklyn is officially 2 and a half weeks healed and doing great. She’s back to her normal activities, has gained almost all her weight back, and is getting her spa treatment this weekend!” We’re thrilled to hear she’s doing so well, and we think she’s earned that spa day!
