Poppy's Remarkable Transformation

When Poppy arrived at Anicira for the first time, she had just been rescued from a hoarding situation involving more than 40 dogs. Suffering from neglect and a lack of veterinary care, she was malnourished, dehydrated, feverish, and had severe alopecia (hair loss). “Her long hairless tail and bare tiny feet made her look like a sad, skinny oppossum, “said her foster mom. She and her husband jumped into action immediately, bringing Poppy to Anicira to begin her recovery journey.

At that first appointment, she was spayed, given fluids for hydration, and started on an antibiotic for her skin. Her foster parents fell in love and adopted her the following month, and over the next six months, they brought their little Poppy “Possum” back to Anicira for vaccinations, parasite testing, and a dental procedure that removed 11 diseased and fractured teeth. As our team worked to restore her physical health inside the hospital, her parents showered her with patience, kindness, and unconditional love outside the hospital.

Slowly but surely, she began to relax, grow her confidence, and rebuild her strength. “Today, Poppy has full fluff, perfect weight, and is as happy as can be,” her mom recently shared. “She loves to roam the yard, roll in the grass, dig in her hole, play chase, and bark mightily through the fence. It’s been absolutely amazing to witness Poppy become healthy and happy with a little time and lots of TLC!”

Her transformation is truly remarkable. We’re grateful to Poppy’s family for trusting us with her care, and even more grateful for their unwavering dedication to her health and happiness.
