During the winter of 2007, a man walked through a snowstorm to Anicira’s clinic. Though we were closed, a staff member let him in. He shared that he had fallen on hard times and his pets hadn’t eaten in days. We made sure his pets were fed—and since then, we’ve helped thousands of others avoid hunger through our Pet Food Pantry.
Anicira’s Pet Food Pantry provides temporary pet food assistance by providing free cat and dog food to families experiencing hardship and is located at 206 South Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA 22801. New and existing clients may drop in during the following weekly hours:
Pantry Hours (open on the same days every week):
Tuesdays: 3 PM – 6 PM
Thursdays: 9 AM – 12 PM and 3 PM – 6 PM
How the pantry works:
- As part of Anicira’s commitment to reducing pet overpopulation, all pets served through the pantry must have proof of spay/neuter and be up to date on their rabies vaccination to receive food. Please bring proof of spay/neuter and rabies vaccination to the pantry. You can obtain records by contacting your veterinarian. If you are having difficulty meeting these requirements, please reach out to us for assistance. We’re happy to help you find low-cost options.

Visit during any of our set weekly hours, no appointment needed. Hours are the same every week – drop in when convenient.
- New clients will complete a brief application and waiver in person to verify eligibility. Applications must be completed and approved before food can be received. Include every cat and dog in your household, even if a pet does not currently meet the pantry requirements. Once you submit your application, you cannot add additional pets.

Each household may receive food once every 30 days. The amount provided is intended to last until your next monthly visit and will vary based on the number and size of your pets and the food we have available.
The pantry primarily serves pet families in Harrisonburg and Rockingham County. When possible, we also assist families from surrounding areas. With increased need in our community, we are providing more meals to more pets than ever—and community support helps make this possible.
