The Drive to Save Olympia

Back in late April, Olympia started to decline. She was vomiting, lethargic, trembling, and growing weaker by the day. Her devoted family didn’t waste any time; they brought her in for multiple evaluations, determined to find answers. Their persistence paid off. In late May, Olympia was diagnosed with a closed pyometra, a life-threatening uterine infection that required immediate emergency surgery.

Closed pyometra is especially dangerous because there’s no external drainage of the infection, meaning it builds up inside the body, often undetected until it becomes critical. It can cause sepsis, organ failure, and death if not treated quickly. The only cure? Emergency surgery to remove the infected uterus.

Without hesitation, Olympia’s family drove 1.5 hours (over 65 miles) to bring her to Anicira for life-saving care. And that drive represents something powerful: their deep, unconditional love and a commitment to giving Olympia the full, joy-filled life she deserves.

Thanks to the skilled hands of Dr. Ayre, Olympia came through surgery beautifully. Mom shares, “She’s recovered incredibly well. Her incision has healed perfectly. Thank you all for literally saving her life. We can’t imagine our life without her, and you all gave us a second chance with her. We will be forever grateful for each and every one of you all.”

We’re absolutely thrilled to hear she’s thriving again, and we’re giving a huge round of applause to her family. Their quick action, dedication, and willingness to go the extra mile (literally!) made all the difference.
