Helping Pets and Their People Stay Together

At Anicira, we believe pets are family. The bond between people and animals provides comfort, companionship, stability, and unconditional love, especially during times of uncertainty. That’s why supporting pets means supporting the people who care for them, too.

In September, Anicira Veterinary Center’s Manassas hospital partnered with the Charlottesville Police Department to collect essential dog supplies for residents moving into an Emergency Low-Barrier Shelter in Charlottesville. The shelter welcomes people and their pets, helping ensure families don’t have to make the heartbreaking choice between finding a safe place to stay and keeping their four-legged companions by their side.

Our goal was to help make this transition a little easier by ensuring that pets arrived with the supplies they needed to feel safe, comfortable, and cared for. Thanks to our community’s generosity, donations included dog beds, food and water bowls, leashes, collars, and other essential items that support pets as they settle into a new environment alongside their families.

This effort reflects Anicira’s mission to improve the lives of animals and the people who love them by removing barriers and creating solutions that keep pets healthy, cared for, and with the families who depend on them. Whether through affordable veterinary care, community partnerships, or outreach efforts like this one, we know that small acts of kindness can have a lasting impact.

We are grateful to the Charlottesville Police Department for their partnership and to every donor who contributed supplies or helped spread the word. Together, we helped support more than pets; we helped preserve the special bond between people and animals during a time of transition.
