Mia is on the Mend
Meet Mia! At 16 years old, she is aging like the fine Samoyed she is. With age often comes a few medical challenges, and for Mia, one of those was a painful eye condition that wasn’t responding to treatment.
After exploring every option, her loving family made the compassionate decision to move forward with an enucleation (eye removal surgery) to relieve her discomfort. Dr. Oelstrom of Anicira San Diego performed the procedure at Anicira, and we’re happy to report that Mia recovered beautifully.
Her mom shared: “Thank you again so much for helping her. Your staff was great to talk to when I had questions, and I think we did the right thing because she now seems much more comfortable with her eye. And… she’s still cute as ever, even with one eye!”
We couldn’t agree more, Mia is absolutely adorable. Her story is a beautiful reminder that age is not a reason to withhold medical care. Geriatric pets can still thrive and enjoy a high quality of life with the right support. With proper planning, monitoring, and veterinary oversight, older patients like Mia can safely undergo anesthetized procedures when needed.
Mia’s family gave her exactly what she deserved: thoughtful decisions, attentive care, and endless love. And honestly, she’s rocking the one-eyed look like a pro.
